Note that Hellenistic Greek was pronounced in many (not all) ways like modern Greek. This was especially true of the vowels. This explains confusions of words for "we/our" and "y'all, y'all's," seeing that their initial vowels (êta and ypsilón, both of which sounded like "i"—as did also ei, oi, and ui).
